Development of Antibacterial, Antioxidant, and UV-Barrier Chitosan Film Incorporated with Piper betle Linn Oil as Active Biodegradable Packaging Material

This study aims to introduce the antibacterial and antioxidant activities of Piper betle Linn oil (PBLO) into chitosan film (pCS), named as pCS-PBLO film. The morphology, structure, properties film, along with PBLO concentration between 0.4% 1.2% (v/v), were determined. surface became rough heterogeneous addition PBLO, which directly influenced on mechanical strength resultant did not affect thermal stability but significant effect flexibility mobility Importantly, enhanced UV-protective property activity incorporated-PBLO. Moreover, resulting revealed great inhibition efficiency against negative-gram (E. coli, P. aeruginosa, S. typhi) positive-gram (S. aureus) bacteria based phenolic compounds, such acetyleugenol, eugenol, 4-allyl-1,2-diacetoxybenzen, chavicol acetate in components. In particular, may extend shelf life king oranges up two weeks at 25 °C that is longer compared uncoated sample coated alone. These results suggest can be used environmental-friendly effective food packaging material future.
